In 2002, when we commemorated the 70th anniversary of the tragic events in Lidice, the memory of which has become a motto that permeates the International Children’s Exhibition of Fine Arts Lidice, this exhibition entered its significant 30th year. This was a reason why the Embassy in Warsaw decided to have it. Another reason was the enormous popularity of this art competition with Polish children who almost regularly participate in it.

The exhibition of the 29th ICEFA Lidice 2001 took place in the exhibition hall of the Czech Centre in Warsaw from 14 January to 12 February 2003.

On 14th January 2003 a preview of the exhibition took place, coupled with prize-giving ceremony for Polish children who had been awarded a prize in the 30th edition of the competition. For the Czech party, the opening ceremony was attended by Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Warsaw Mr. Bedřich Kopecký, who together with Curator of the Exhibition Ms Iva Brothánková presented prizes to the winners, Cultural Attaché at the Warsaw Embassy Ms Monika Machová, Director of the Czech Centre in Warsaw dr. Zbyšek Ondřeka, who delivered the opening speech and compered the event, giving the floor to other guests from major Polish institutions. Among them Director of the Slovak Institute Helena Jacošová, Mgr Emilia Lipiňská and Mr. Janusz Galicki from the Ministry of National Education and Sports, Head of the Department of General Education at the Ministry Ms Ewa Raich and headmasters and teachers of Polish art schools. The presence of these officials, their speeches and even the air of festivity at the preview attested to the ever growing interest in the exhibition.

There was mentioned the Lidice tragedy at the opening ceremony, and stressed the humane mission of the exhibition and its significance to Poland. All speakers unanimously expressed their joy at the exhibition being on display also in Warsaw.
The interest of Poland in the “Lidice exhibition”, in which it participates zealously, is very gratifying. The exhibition as a whole confirms that this international event, unparalleled in the world in terms of scope and tradition, brings a lot of joy and creative imagination to children all over the world.
