On 28 November 2006, the National Library in Rio de Janeiro hosted the preview of the 32nd International Children’s Exhibition of Fine Arts Lidice 2004.

The exhibition was opened with speeches of Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Brazil Dr. Václav Hubinger, who kindly took over the auspices of the exhibition, the director of the National Library, Mr. Pedro Amaral from the local department of culture and the curator of ICEFA Lidice. The event included a musical performance by a local children’s flute ensemble conducted by Mrs. Tina, an art school teacher. At the end of its performance consisting of Brazilian folk music the ensemble played the Czech national anthem in a nice arrangement for flutes and guitars. Then a girl’s dance troupe appeared in the rhythm of samba. The invitation for the event was extended also to the children who participate in the ICEFA Lidice and to the pupils of primary schools.

The event concluded with the ICEFA curator presenting books on Lidice and ¨the Lidice children to Ambassador of the Czech Republic Dr. Václav Hubinger and Mr. Freddy Sobotka, who has been living in Brazil nearly 60 years and had supported the opening ceremony financially. The English version of these books were given to the director of the National Library, the head of the music school and other prominent guests. The children who had performed there received gifts from the Lidice Memorial – promotional materials and sweets. The exhibition will last till February 2007.

On 5 December 2006, another part of the 32nd ICEFA Lidice 2004 was opened in the community centre in the Brazilian Lidice. The preview was opened in the presence of the mayor of the town of Lidice, Mr. Didacio Jose de Moraes Penna, the secretary for tourism and economic development, Ms Elvira Augusta Brum Soares and Ms Valeria, the headmistress of the Lidice nursery school who had rehearsed with her pupils an art performance for the opening ceremony. The artworks will be on display here till the beginning of March 2007.
