16. 9. 2014

On September 11th, 2014 an opening ceremony of the Travelling Exhibition ICEFA Lidice 2003-2014 on Banners was held at the A.S. Pushkin Central City Library in St.Petersburg thanks to the organization and support of the Czech Consulate General in St.Petersburg. The Russian children from the area, who were awarded at the competition also recieved their prizes during the ceremony.

Consul General of the Czech Republic, Mr. Karel Charanza, and Mrs. Ivona Kasalická, the exhibition currator, handed over the diplomas. In his opening speech Mr. Charanza mentioned the history of the village of Lidice, which was burnt down and destroyed in 1942 during WWII. He talked about the significance of ICEFA  Lidice, which unites children from around the world and which is one of the most important children art exhibitions worldwide thanks to it's volume and duration. The curator Mrs. Kasalická pointed out that the last time ICEFA Lidice was presented in Russia was in the Czech Centre in Moscow in 2002,12 years ago, so she was happy to use the opportunity to bring the awarded artworks to Moscow again, and not only because of the large number of Russian children participating in the competition each year, or the fact that Russia is the 3rd most awarded country of the competition (following the Czech and Slovak Republics).

There were three awarded children present at the ceremony - two girls from the Center of Children's Creativity, St. Petersburg and a girl from the DCHŠ, Priozersk. The opening was further attended by many children, parents and teachers as well as by the local Czech-Russian Association representatives. The exhibition will be on display at the Pushkin Library until mid-October and will then be sent to other libraries in St.Petersburg.
