The 39th edition of the oldest and largest exhibition of children’s artistic expressions in Europe, Lidice 2011, organized by the Lidice Memorial in co-operation with UNESCO, has come to an end. Selected entries can be seen at the Lidice Gallery from 2 June 2011 on. The ceremonial opening will be held in the presence of major figures and media on Wednesday, 1 June at 11 a.m.
The attendance has been promised of First Vice President of the Senate of the CR MUDr. Přemysl Sobotka, Vice President of the Senate Alena Gajdůšková, First Deputy Minister of Culture of the CR JUDr. František Mikeš, Chairwomen of the Czech Commission for UNESCO Prof. RNDr. Helena Illnerová, DrSc. and First Deputy Minister of Education, Youth and Sports of the CR Ing. Eva Bartoňová. From among the diplomatic missions of participating countries, the attendance is expected of the representatives of Afghanistan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, China, Cuba, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Romania, Serbia and Venezuela.
“The tradition of the exhibition extends over forty years. I do not know any other international project of this kind with such a long history,” says Ivona Kasalická, curator of the exhibition and head of the Lidice Gallery, adding: “In total we received record-breaking 25,450 entries from 66 countries, among them e.g. Ethiopia, the Philippines, Panama or Mongolia“. The assigned theme of the competition was That Is Where I Live, That Is Me.
To increase awareness of this unique project that worthily represents the Czech Republic abroad, the Lidice Memorial comes forward with an extraordinary offer: The media that will bring the news about the opening can borrow the set of children’s works of art to decorate their editorial office.
