ICEFA 2010 prize awards - Croatia, Zagreb

On 2 December 2010, the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Zagreb in cooperation with the School Museum in Zagreb arranged the ceremonial prize awards to Croatian competitors in the 38th International Children’s Exhibition of Fine Arts “Lidice”. The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Croatia traditionally engaged in organizing the event. The 38th edition had 64 Croatian schools in total, with 24 of their pupils being awarded a prize.
The event is held annually by the Czech establishment Lidice Memorial to commemorate the victims of the Lidice tragedy. The aim of the exhibition is to arouse the interest of the youngest generation in modern history, namely in the events related to WWII.
The award ceremony was opened by curator of the School Museum Kristina Gverič and the director of the museum Branka Manin gave a warm welcome to the guests. Congratulating the creators of the winning entries, Ambassador of the Czech Republic Karel Kühnl presented them with certificates and medals. Besides the winners, also representatives of the schools, teachers and pedagogues as well as the parents attended the prize award ceremony.
A modest banquet after the ceremony saw the director of the School Museum in Zagreb giving the children small presents and joining Ambassador Karel Kühnl in talking with them about the Czech village of Lidice. The Ambassador stressed the importance of keeping the memories of the horrors of WWII so that they could not be repeated in the future. Both the children and the representatives of the schools promised their participation in the 39th edition of this international competition.
The event in the School Museum was watched by some journalists from Croatian national dailies (Jutarnji list, Novi list, HTV, Hina…).
