ICEFA 2009, 2010 Prize Awards - Egypt, Cairo

On 21 April, 2011, Ambassador Pavel Kafka presented awards to 19 children from the Arab Republic of Egypt for their participation in the Children’s Exhibition of Fine Arts Lidice in the years 2009 and 2010.
The award ceremony took place in a very cordial atmosphere in the ceremonial room of the Embassy in Cairo. It was a great experience for child-winners ranging from 4 to 16 years of age, accompanied by their parents, siblings and art teachers, to enter the premises of a foreign embassy and shake hands with the head of the foreign mission. For many of them, it was their first encounter with foreigners in their life. Since there were educational institutions among the awarded schools that were in governorates outside Cairo, the travel to the capital was a nice all-day trip.
The awards went to children from the schools in the fashionable Cairo quarter of Heliopolis, in Alexandria and in Ismailia. The school in Alexandria (Sporting Club Alexandria) even defended their ‘irons in the fire’ in both editions.
Besides two “Rose of Lidice” medals and nineteen honourable mentions for a distinct participation, young artists received promotional stuff in the style of the “Czech bubble” from the promotional collection of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Embassy in Cairo prepared a small, colourful snack for them and their entourage, featuring sweets that attract children’s eyes in a shop window of confectioneries and that parents tend to permit their children at such occasions.
